Is this a Christmas circular? OK your right maybe, but it's a 'one-off' - whilst I test another bit of Mac Software that is probably less than wonderful. OK it was free (see link below). There are quite a few 'free' and 'not so free' web links on all these pages to try out. Over the years I have found some pretty interesting Reprographic print and system utilities that I have collected 'just in case'. Well I can't think of any 'case' really but this is really just such an excuse to show you what you may have have missed. Maybe you have a gem in your own collection to swop or trade. It's a bit like stamp collecting (for me) and I do actually prefer 'old' macs. If you have a Mac that is 5 mins old. It's already 'old' and could do well with some of my utilities below. I am not sure I would try them all at the same time mind. I have tweaked every system since system 7.1 (Tiddles) up to 10.4 (Tiger). Tiger is not a huge success in my opinion... Fonts are a mess, Widgits are a distraction and huge installations of the TIGER system means that I am forever removing dead space that kills the speed you hoped to gain from upgrading. Typically I can make any mac 30% to 40% faster with a few basic osx tweaks. You might be curious as how I achieve it. (Maybe not) - but it's a lot cheaper than buying a faster Mac every year. PC's suffer slightly more than Macs from sudden 'slow down' and it's not obvious what's up. At least with a Mac a little pruning and tinkering restores the revs. As we're pretty much all on the same Mac platform I have listed my favourite tweaks in four sections:
These are my essential apps and utilities. They work for me, they might not work for you, so test them on and 'old' mac first before you commit them to your main mac paradiso. Have fun looking through these pages. Philip. | ||
